The Crucible: Final Blog Post

One of the major differences in the book and the movie was the end. In the end of the movie, after John Proctor confesses and then rips up his confession, he is taken to the gallows, along with two other women. When they get there they prepare to get hung immediately. As they are standing there waiting, the three of them start saying the Lord's prayer. As they they are saying this they get pushed off one by one. John Proctor is the last one to get pushed off, and it is right before he says amen. In the book it doesn't even say that he gets hung, it just says they take him away to the gallows.

There were a lot of similarities between the book and the movie as well. One of these similarities was when Proctor confesses. He decides to confess after talking with Elizabeth. In order to do this he has to sign a paper saying he confessed that is to be hung on the church door for everyone to see. He has a terribly hard time doing this because he doesn't want to blacken his name more than it already is. When he finishes signing it and gives it to Danforth, he grabs it right back and rips it up. He doesn't want everyone to see the paper saying he confessed because he is ashamed. The court officials then load him up in a wagon and take him to the gallows to be hung.

I think the movie was a very good interpretation of the book. I thought the movie was very accurate and was easy to understand. I think the actors did a very good job of representing the characters. They were very fitting for the characters of the book. Pretty much all of the book was in the movie. I recognized a lot of quotes from the book as well. Overall I think the book and the movie were pretty much the same. I enjoyed the movie more than the book though.
